A LOVE of goats and the desire to give people who are intolerant to cow dairy products a 'treat' has led to the formation of an innovative new confectionery business, 'Kid Me Not'. When owner Loraine Makowski-Heaton's, baby daughter developed eczema, Loraine used goat's milk to help alleviate the condition. By changing to a goat's milk diet, she has found that the condition has improved and has followed the same diet with her new baby son - also an eczema sufferer. "Amy developed eczema after her vaccinations, and the Doctor wanted to put her on steroids, but I decided to try her on goat’s milk instead, after reading several articles upon the benefits of goat’s milk," explained Loraine. |

"Within two weeks, she was totally clear. Now, both Amy (6) and Joshua (2) are fine as long as they don't have products containing cow's milk." But having to keep away from cows milk meant the children were missing out on treats such as ice cream, so Loraine started to experiment with different recipes - which have evolved into a family business. "Originally, the idea was to develop an ice cream, but the distribution costs made it too expensive. Then at Christmas time, whilst fudge making with my mother, June. I thought of "Kid Me Not". |

Loraine's association with goats has been long standing, an active member of both the Surrey Goat Club and the Welsh & Marches Goat Club. Having moved from Surrey nearly four years ago, with her husband Michael and parents June & Sid Heaton to their farm in Talley, near Llandeilo, where they run a successful holiday let business in some converted barns and it is here that, Loraine has established a large herd of Anglo Nubian and Toggenburg goats - Anglo Nubians in particular are renowned for producing a very rich, creamy low fat milk (96% fat free and rich in calcium), which is ideal for making a very creamy soft textured fudge that is not chewy or crumbly.
